On Wednesday, Houseparty, a social media app announced they were joining the Epic Games family. The creators of Fortnite and Unreal Engine, acquired Houseparty for an undisclosed amount. Houseparty is a synchronous social platform that provides video group chat, especially for teenagers. By teaming up with Epic Games, Houseparty will have access to the game studio’s extensive database and resources while boosting the growing influence of Epic Games in the social media space. Sima Sistani, co-founder and CEO of Houseparty says, “Joining Epic is a great step forward in achieving our mission of bringing empathy to online communication. We have a common vision to make human interaction easier and more enjoyable, and always with respect for user privacy.” The founder and CEO of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney added, “Houseparty brings people together creating positive social interactions in real time.
